Analysis Hovis Advert

The Print based Hovis advert < click here for link to image

I found this advert rather clever in the way they made the sandwiches appear like the Union Jack. This advert has quite a patriotic feel to it with the shape of the sandwiches, the line "Made from 100% British Wheat" and using bacon sandwiches. Bacon sandwiches are more english than say prawn and mayo. The colours are all warm and in keeping with a colour scheme. This advert reminds me of the war times. The fact that it is on a old wooden table, the brown colours and the patriotic feel of the advert - a time when we all were very proud to be British.

The headline is in a nice neutral colour on a dark background making it easy to understand also stand out. It is a good size but does not dominate the advert as a whole. The image is also a good size and the sandwiches do look rather tasty.

At the bottom is the Hovis logo that actually looks like a loaf of bread. The yellow where the tagline "AS GOOD AS IT'S ALWAYS BEEN" really stands out still goes with the advert as a whole. The tagline also talks about time again giving the war time feel. That Hovis has been making good loafs of bread even in the times at war.

All in all i think that the advert is well done, clever and layed out well. I believe it has a warm feel to it and would have been a good success. :)
